Welcome to the SAAFoST 2021 Congress website!

SAAFoST’s KwaZulu-Natal Branch is proud to host the 24th Biennial Congress and, in line with changing dynamics, in the wake of the world’s most challenging hurdle – the COVID-19 pandemic – we are excited to bring you the first ever VIRTUAL SAAFoST Congress.

If ever there was a branch that could motivate for a virtual congress, it would be SAAFoST KZN. As much as we may deprive many of our regular visitors from incorporating a quick beach weekend getaway, our virtual platform offers the opportunity to draw many international speakers from diverse FMCG and academic institutions. Added to this, the cost impact for attending virtual is significantly less compared to our normal face-to-face congress and, as industry picks up after the devastating impact of lockdown, we’re confident our virtual congress will draw many more delegates.

The theme of “Paradigm Shifts – Food in the 21st Century” represents the continuous dynamic changes with which the food industry is faced and challenged. As much as we look forward, we must keep in mind the basics and learnings from the past. It is the ultimate paradox. Our knowledge and technology are advancing in leaps and bounds compared to the fundamental basics that form the foundation of food science and technology. Spare a thought of how COVID-19 could have been prevented, had wet-markets in China adhered to food safety protocols.

For Congress 2021, we will be sure to deliver on expectations and satisfy your appetite for everything relating to food safety, new technologies, sustainability and nutrition. And, considering the importance of growing South Africa’s small to medium enterprises, we are adding Entrepreneurship to the programme.

For the Trade Exhibition, we have capacity to cater to all our industry members via virtual engagement with the benefit of sampling via a courier facility – thus offering delegates and exhibitors the opportunity to still have the hands-on experience.

We cordially invite you to participate in this exciting event in the 2021 calendar and look forward to networking with you via our virtual platform.

Kind regards

Madelein Jansen
